Welcome to the web site of the Biodiversity Project.


We are a school-based gardening and ecology program sponsored by McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester, NY.

Since 1995 we have run an organic garden using rare, open-pollinated varieties of fruits and vegetables. Our produce has been donated to the AIDS-Rochester food bank and to other people of need. Over the past thirteen summers we have delivered nearly 3 1/2 tons of organic, fresh produce through the efforts of our student gardeners and staff.

Beginning in the autumn of 2001, we have also offered an elective course in Biodiversity to the students of McQuaid.

Teamwork

The Biodiversity Project in the News:

  • On Wednesday, july 19, 2006 the project was featured in an article in the Brighton-Pittsford Post.
  • Channel 10 TV and the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle visited the garden on July 19.  The TV station aired a story on our efforts that evening and the D&C ran a feature article on the Biodiversity Garden the first week of August 2006.
  • Channel 13 featured the Biodiversity Project in its "Bright Spots" segment on Wednesday, July 26.
  • The Greece Cable 12 program "GreenLine" will be visiting the garden on August 9th.  Hopefully our story will be featured later on public access tv.

  GREAT NEWS!

The Abundant Life Seed Foundation was destroyed by fire on August 4, 2003.But its work with the WORLD SEED FUND is continuing.  Its offering of organic seeds has been taken over by TERRITORIAL SEEDS. Welcome back!
 

 

SUMMER SCHEDULE for 2007

Our summer gardening schedule is now complete.  With the start of school, garden duties will be taken over by the Biodiversity class.
